Zelensky in Davos: Is this world flying into the abyss?

Zelensky: Not everything in the new era is positiveThe norm for the modern world was the violation of treaties and the shock of the foundations of international law, said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
A number of changes taking place in the modern world can turn into fatal shocks for humanity. This, speaking on January 22 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, said President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. His speech was broadcast by the President’s Office on Facebook.
"What is the main threat? Security - both of an individual and of entire nations. The modern world is changing at a reactive speed, which moves us into a new era. What seemed like fiction yesterday has become a reality today. But not everything in this era is positive. Trade wars, the redistribution of territories, the rapid growth of military budgets, separatist movements, the withdrawal of countries from international agreements - all this, unfortunately, is a new normality, "said the head of the Ukrainian state.

Shocks are a habit, Zelensky said.
"All this undermines the faith of mankind, leads to thoughts: I'm sorry, but is this world flying into the abyss?" He added.
The President recalled that the sixth year in Ukraine has been a war.

In London, said the right-wing radicals abuse the national symbols of Ukraine

UK Security Secretary Brandon Lewis regrets the insult to Ukrainians due to the trident appearing in the British extremism guide.

Lewis said that the UK "sincerely regrets" what happened
The appearance of a trident in the British manual on the fight against extremism is due to the fact that Ukrainian radicals abuse national symbols. This was stated by British Minister for Security Brandon Lewis, whose comment was posted on January 22 on Twitter at the Ukrainian Embassy in London.

"Unfortunately, right-wing groups have a history of misusing national symbols as their own identification. And that was the reason for including some symbols in the manual," he said.

The Minister emphasized that the manual was designed to help the police recognize and understand the signs and symbols that they may encounter while carrying out their duties.

"As the police statement has exhaustively stated, many of these symbols alone are not counterterrorist interest," Lewis explained.

He stressed that Great Britain recognizes the trident as a symbol of Ukraine, "having important constitutional, historical and cultural significance for the Ukrainian people, sincerely regrets the insult that the state and the Ukrainian people inflicted on the state."

Impeachment trump. Senate Republicans Reject All Democratic Regulatory Proposals

The Senate has begun to consider the issue of impeachment on the meritsRepresentatives of the democratic minority in the Senate demanded a few votes to present evidence and call witnesses to fix the Republicans' position at the beginning of the trial of impeachment of President Donald Trump. Three times the amendments to the regulations were rejected.
The Republican-controlled Senate of the US Congress blocked Democratic initiatives to change the rules of procedure for impeachment of President Donald Trump, reports Voice of America.

Senators rejected three different proposals by the leader of the democratic minority, Chuck Schumer, to request documents and information regarding Trump’s contacts with Ukraine from the White House, the State Department and the Office of Budget Management .

Legislators voted in accordance with their party affiliation: 53 votes in favor, 47 against.

With the same result, senators rejected the proposal to send a summons to testify to the head of the White House apparatus, Miku Mulvaini.

Democrats said they demanded a few votes to present evidence and call witnesses to fix the Republicans' stance on this issue.

On January 21 until late in the evening,  congressmen discussed the rules of  the impeachment process, which, according to the law, takes the form of a court hearing. The head of the US Supreme Court, John Roberts, chairs the special Senate meeting.

Each side of the trial has three days for opening statements before documentary evidence is examined and witnesses questioned, said Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
On December 18, the U.S. House of Representatives  approved both articles of the prosecution  under the Trump impeachment procedure:  "abuse of power"  in communication with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, as well as "obstruction of Congress" during the investigation. Democrats believe that the head of the White House ignored US national interests for personal political gain. Trump became the third American president to whom the House of Representatives impeached.

Legislators of the House of Representatives filed charges in the upper house. On January 18, members of the U.S. House of Representatives  submitted to the Senate a 111-page document  substantiating the impeachment of Trump.

Trump's lawyers believe that both articles  should be rejected .
